ABOUT ME

I was born in a sun-kissed island, where coconut trees dance to the breezes of the Caribbean Sea: my beloved Dominican Republic. My professional career began very differently to what is it is today. In 2009, I completed a Bachelor of Advertising and Marketing and began working as a copywriter in the advertising agency Pagés BBDO. During my time there, I worked in several social marketing campaigns and discovered a passion for social change.

Engulfed in this passion, I decided to start a non-profit dedicated to environmental conservation. I discovered the organisation 350.org and joined their efforts to build a grassroots climate movement. I established and led the local 350 chapter in the Dominican Republic, 350 Dominicana. For two years, my work with 350 involved leading campaigns and events aimed at educating the community about the impacts of climate change, as well as involving them in hands-on environmental conservation initiatives.

In 2011, I moved to Australia to complete a Bachelor of Environmental Science. With a new-found perspective, I continued progressing my career in the areas of environment and sustainability. In 2016, I began working as the sustainability officer for the Griffith Business School; a position that has complemented my understanding of environmental science with the role organisations play in driving sustainability. In 2020, I graduated from a Master of Environmental Science with distinction, majoring in Climate Change Adaptation.  My dissertation applied systems thinking to explore the role of community-based ecotourism in achieving conservation outcomes and mitigating poaching in marine reserves.

I recently launched Intego Travel and enrolled in a PhD to continue expanding my knowledge of how to use systems thinking within sustainable tourism and its capacity to 1) contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, and 2) conservation in developing countries through the establishment of community-based ecotourism projects.
